Sadie was found running-at-large by Animal Control and was in serious heat distress at the time. She was provided veterinary treatment and stabilized but upon examination, other medical conditions were noted.
She had a collapsed trachea, which our vet said was serious and likely the result of a debarking surgery. Sadie cannot bark, she just emits a raspy squawk. Sadie's breathing is highly restricited when she struggles and is stressed. Its not life-threatening in everyday life as long as she lives a calm life.
She also has a mammary tumour which the vet thinks presents as benign but that is not definitive.
Sadie is not spayed, and our vet is extremely reluctant to spay her and remove her mammary tumour as she would need to be sedated and intubated which is a problem due to her trachea issues. So Dog Speed has decided its not safe to spay her and she will need to be adopted to an extremely responsible person.
On a positive note, Sadie has perfect teeth! The vet thought she was very young, maybe a young as 3 according to her teeth, but then said she has old skin and a greyish muzzle, so she could be at least 6, 7 or even 8. The vet said she is a "magic dog" without a definable age! She is friendly and lovable, gives kissy faces all the time. We agree, Sadie is indeed a wonderful magic dog!
Sadie is on hold for now pending recovery and further assessment. Stay tuned for more on Sadie soon!
